Joss Whedon can now Relax. (The Avengers: Age of Ultron – Filming is Complete)

The cast of The Avengers: Age of Ultron recently took a short break from several months of filming to attend San Diego Comic-Con 2014 and present the first trailer for the movie to a hall of eager fans, with Josh Brolin (who played Thanos inGuardians of the Galaxy) even donning the Infinity Gauntlet for the occasion.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will see Earth’s elite superhero team grow even stronger with twins Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) joining the party alongside the Avengers’ first fully synthetic member, Vision (Paul Bettany). There may not be a Chitauri army for them to face this time around, but a new menace has emerged in the form of the malevolent A.I., Ultron, who was shown amassing an entire army of robots to take down the Avengers in the official Comic-Con concept art.

Now The Avengers: Age of Ultron is one step closer to reaching theaters as writer and director Joss Whedon announced on Twitter that filming has wrapped, celebrating the end of the shoot with a picture of himself sitting on a piece of the set looking troubled, wearing a cap with the Avengers’ symbol on it and asking – in caption form – “What the hell do I do now?” We recommend putting your feet up for a day or two, Joss.

Of course, the work is far from over for Whedon and the cast as The Avengers: Age of Ultron will now enter fully into the post-production stage. For those hoping that the end of filming means that a trailer will surely follow before long, however, some disappointing news has come in the form of Cinema Blend‘s recent interview with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. When asked when general audiences will get to see the Comic-Con trailer (or any trailer, for that matter), Feige replied that this won’t happen until “much later.”

Surprisingly, no video footage of the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer has leaked online, though it’s likely that a slightly recut version will be released later on, as was the case with the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer from SDCC 2013. Guardians of the Galaxy, the second team superhero movie from Marvel Studios, faced a much tougher challenge with winning audiences due to the obscurity of the source material, but nonetheless managed to debut with an impressive $94.3 million box office gross during its opening weekend. The Avengers, meanwhile, remains the highest-grossing comic book movie of all time.

Nine months seems like a long time to wait for the next entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but hopefully it won’t be too long before we get to see more images, more details and the first bits of footage from the Avengers’ next adventure.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in theaters on May 1st, 2015.
